چکیده

OBJECTIVE To assess the association of the G54D (rs1800450) polymorphism of the gene MBL2 in the gestational diabetes mellitus with the need for additional treatment and the occurrence of large newborns for the gestational age. SUBJECTS AND METHODS One hundred and five patients recruited in Joinville--Brazil were evaluated between November 2010 and October 2012. Pregnant women were divided in two groups correspondents to the presence (n = 37) or absence (n = 68) of the mutant allele. The variants of the polymorphism G54D were identified by restriction fragment lengths polymorphisms (RFLP). Anthropometric and biochemical parameters of the mother and the newborn, and the necessity of additional therapy associated with diet were assessed as the primary outcomes. RESULTS Thirty-five point two percent of the evaluated patients carried at least one mutated allele of G54D polymorphism. There were no significant differences in weight gain, parity, age, body mass index and gestational age of arrival at maternity between the two groups. The groups of patients with or without the mutated allele did not differ in the need for additional treatment associated with diet (16.2% vs. 26.7%) respectively and with the occurrence of large newborns for gestational age (24.3% vs. 13.2%). CONCLUSION Our data showed that the polymorphism G54D of the gene MBL2 had no effect in the need for additional treatment associated with the diet-based therapy and in the occurrence of large newborns for gestational age in the studied population.

G22A Polymorphism of Adenosine Deaminase and its Association with Biochemical Characteristics of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in an Iranian Population

Adenosine deaminase (ADA) is an important regulator of insulin action. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) G22A in the ADA gene decreases enzymatic activity of ADA. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the SNP G22A and blood glycemic control, insulin resistance, and obesity of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) patients in an Iranian population. SNP G22A was d...

The Soluble Carrier 30 A8 (SLC30A8) Gene Polymorphism and Risk of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 in Eastern Azerbijan Population of Iran

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D) is the most common metabolic disease demonstrating itself by hyper- glycemia, due to impaired insulin secretion or action. Recently, Whole-Genome Association studies have revealed the role of several new genes responsible for T2D. One of the most studied genes is SLC30A8 (Zn-T8) which is exclusively expressed in pancreatic ?-cells and participates in insulin stora...

Relationship between rs9939609 Polymorphism of FTO Gene, Diabetes Mellitus and Tuberculosis

Abstract Tuberculosis and diabetes mellitus are the most important reasons in mortality all over the world. It’s clear that reviewing of relationship between Tuberculosis (TB) and diabetes mellitus (DM) is necessary; on the other hand it’s found that FTO gene has the positive relationship with metabolic issues. Therefore, it’s necessary pay attention to the above and danger...

Association of adiponectin gene rs2241766 polymorphism with serum adiponectin level, Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus in an Iranian population

Introdution: Adiponectin is a peptide secreted from fat cells that plays an important role in the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. A number of single nucleotide polymorphisms in the adiponectin gene are associated with lower adiponectin expression and T2DM. The aim of this study was to determination the frequency of rs 2241766 polymorphism in adiponectin gene and its relat...

Functional Variants in MBL2 Are Associated With Type 2 Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes Traits in Pima Indians and the Old Order Amish

OBJECTIVE MBL2 encodes the mannose-binding lectin, which is a key player in the innate immune system and has recently been found to play a role in insulin resistance and development of type 1 diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus. To assess the role of MBL2 in diabetes susceptibility, this gene was analyzed in the Pima Indian population, which has a high prevalence of type 2 diabetes. RE...
